Having fresh content on your site is essential to your success if you would like to be effective online. There are many different reasons to have a blog for your business. These days blogs are not just for individuals who want to express themselves. Businesses are using this to show their expertise to get more customers. Not only does this help you build credibility, it also helps your rankings on the search engines. Search engines like having fresh content so they can provide the best content possible to the searcher. This article will help you understand the basics of blogs and how to use them effectively.

Tips for writing a blog post:

  • Write your blog/post offline
  • Find complimentary visuals
  • Share blog post through social media
  • Specify category and add keywords
  • Tag visuals with keywords
  • Turn on “comments”
  • Moderate, respond, engage
  • Be consistent

1. Topics

Pick a topic that will inform your audience and potential customers about who you are. This can be topics that help you show the customers how to use your products. Articles can also be about updates to your company changes or industry news. Remember how-to is a top searched topic online and on YouTube so take advantage of this potential traffic.

2. Keywords

You need to make sure you know the main keywords associated with searching for your type of business.  I would suggests choosing 3-5 keywords that can relate well with your business. Once you have these keywords in mind you can then put these keywords throughout your site and articles.

3. Title Tags and Headlines of blogs

Now that you have chosen your keywords it is time to figure out where to put them on your blog. Title Tags are one of the top things the Google looks at when they want to rank your site.  Most of the time the headline/title of your blog post is also called the “Title Tag”. It is very important that you put keywords here so you can rank high. Make sure that you don’t overdo it with keywords.

 4. Frequency

Whenever you start a blog be sure to try to find out at what rate you can post. Once you have a given audience that comes back to your site often you will need to be consistent. If you post every three days and suddenly stop then you will possibly lose visitors. As a business, writing a blog once or twice a month can be beneficial. You do not need to wait until you have a bunch of content before you write. Blogs and articles can just be a couple paragraphs if needed.

5. Platform Options

There are many different platforms you can use to start a blog. If you already have a site for your business it is recommended that you add a tab to your current site instead of having a separate site. Marketing two different sites is time consuming and also you will get more search traffic if everything is on one page. If you want to start a blog there a few options. WordPress has many options and templates and looks more like business site that you would see around the web. Other options are Blogger and Tumbr.com

 6. Directories

Directories are used as an aggregator of information about businesses. Using these will help your site get more exposure to an audience that may be outside of your customers. For example putting your link on sites like the following will help your site tremendously. Most of the time it is free to post your link on these directory sites which yield good traffic for your blog.

Make sure to share your blog post whenever the articles are finished. Ways to share your articles include sharing on social media, creating newsletters, using links to promote throughout your site. Many people have the question of what to post on social media. Blogs are a great way to start with sharing content. Each time you post the article you should also post to all your accounts. Creating multiple uses for your content is important. After you make the article you can also make it into a newsletter that you send out weekly. This will help you reach your email subscribers as well as visitors.
